Where to next?
Planning your first solo trip and a little afraid of the world outside, getting lost or maybe forgetting something?
I relocated to another city and felt petrified of the new roads, the people around and discovered that traveling alone will be the scariest, most liberating, life changing experience of your life. Try it at least once.
Just feel the fear and do it anyway! We’ve got you covered.
1. Fierce but Flexible
Plans don’t always work out the way we want them to, a few delays in your itinerary are inevitable. Don’t lose it yet! Be patient and adjustable, that’s how the adventitious population survives.
2. Make a List
We tend to forget mental lists, jot down the list of things needed a week before each trip – which you’ll definitely fail to remember at the last moment. Too lazy to find a paper and pen? Open notes in your mobile phone!
3. Don’t forget an extra camera battery (or two)
You do not want to regret – not capturing that perfect sunset or that scenic landscape just because your camera battery is dead.
4. Make photocopies of important documents
In my early twenties, I lost my passport before boarding the flight. Luckily, I was before time and had the spare time to check with the lost and found department. Apparently, I had left it in the washroom.
YES… please don’t risk it. Get those photocopies and keep em’ safe.
5. Pre-plan your outfits
You definitely don’t want to carry extra luggage while travelling. The safest bet is to pre plan your outfits according the places you are visiting and especially considering the weather of Indian cities.
6. Leave room for spontaneity
India has a rich culture and you’ll be surprised of the things it has to offer. So, don’t just stick to the itinerary, you never know what might interest you on your way.
7. Pack extra underwear
How often will you get a chance to do your laundry on a vacay? You might repeat your clothes but do not take any chances with your under wears, you surely don’t want any UTI’s when travelling.
8. Enquire about the price BEFORE you take public transportation
In most Indian city’s the fare differs of all public transportations like taxi’s, auto-rickshaws, trains, etc. Dig a little so you don’t pay extra rather save on your local travels.
9. Put your room number & hotel address in your phone
It’s a new city, you might not remember the directions and the names of the places you’re staying at / you’re room numbers. Make a note of these details on your mobile phone.
10. Ask the locals
Indians have a very welcoming behavior towards their guests, connect with the locals about hidden gems of the city or the street foods of the city and they’ll guide you. Nowadays, we do have applications on our android or IOS mobiles to connect with the people around us as well.
11. Seperate your sources of money
Try and make your travels cashless as that’s the safest bet, but you might require little cash here and there for your local travels and meals. But make sure you have other sources as well, some vendors might take online payments only, some may take only cash.
12. Travel first aid kit
Medicines you take at home regularly, Antihistamines if any allergies, Antacid for acidity, Anti-bacterial hand-wipes/sanitizer, bandages for minor cuts and scrapes, safety pins, aloe-gel for sunburns. You know your body better, keep that in mind and prep a first aid kit for yourself. Precaution is better than cure, DO NOT FORGET YOUR FACE MASKS.
